Go to control panel, click power options then adjust or diable the sleep and hibernate mode.
For a down load to take this much time you must have dial up, for quicker down load go to a library or coffee shop with free WiFI you can down load large files in minutes.
Hope this helps

under the power manager in control panel, you can select what happens when you close the lid.

it is never a good idea to keep the laptop on while lid (screen) is closed. The heat will dissipate hardly. The cpu cooler alone can’t cool the whole laptop system.

I don’t know what kind of laptop you have but usually every laptop manufacturer has a utility ‘hardwired’ or software based to control power consumption and hibernation/sleep mode.

In my Asus laptop it is not working to use power settings from Windows. Hence it must use the utility of the vensor (here ASUS)
