If you want to keep it all business and functional then I suggest a Netbook. They are small, but light, and very efficient for web browsing. I outline the pros and cons of these further on my blog. The biggi being that between 250 and 400 dollars you could easily get the extended warranty to protect yourself.
This website is useful for purchasing a best laptop for college.
I find this website is useful and valuable of this purpose.
Why not a dell?
A dell is the BEST discount laptop you can get (arguably very good business class computers as well like the e6500)
I don’t understand why you wouldn’t want a dell.
Any laptop for $400 or less is a piece of ****.
I can tell you that with absolute certainty.
Shell out at least $600 to make sure you get a decent comp.
And if I were you, I’d get a dell.
I tell everyone that asks me (and many people do in my line of work) that the best budget computers are Dells. Hands down dell.
the only computer thats $400 and worth any time:
but thats literally just the very basics don’t expect it to be fast for picture editing and sharing.
If not go to a store and buy any cheap laptop with XP and not vista because any laptop under $1000 can’t run Vista properly
